Payment for court records searches and copying charges can be made via cheque, credit card, or money order. Online court records search can be paid for using a MasterCard or Visa. Fees paid to retrieve court records varies according to the service rendered. For example, plain and uncertified copies of printed records are charged at $1.00 per page, while certified copies are charged at $5.00.

Bexar County Civil Court Case Records

Bexar County civil court records are judicial records that provide a glimpse into legal conflicts filed by citizens or their businesses. The nature of civil disputes typically relates to money, business breach, or some breach of personal rights. The Bexar County Civil District Courts handle civil cases in compliance with the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure.

Civil Court records are maintained by the Bexar County clerk and district court clerk and may be obtained by conducting an online self-service search at no charge by initiating a public kiosk search at the record keeper’s office for a $5.00 fee. Civil court records are also obtainable via mail requests.

You may make your copy request by eFiling, mail, or in person. Please make sure to provide the name and case file number, if available, for each request. The fee for plain copies is $1.00 per page. Bexar County Criminal Court Case Records

Bexar Criminal court case records refer to the documented criminal history of residents.

Criminal offenses in Bexar County are categorized into three; Felonies, Misdemeanors, and minor offenses/infractions. The County Clerk and District Court clerk maintain the criminal court case records and provide access to interested members of the public.

Starting from January 1, 2014, The Bexar County Criminal Division, following a mandate from the Texas Supreme Court, requires all lawyers in Bexar County, alongside nine other highly populated counties, to file court documents electronically.

Attorneys handling Civil, Probate, and Criminal cases in Bexar County are expected to utilize an electronic filing service provider that has been accredited by the Office of Court Administration. Nevertheless, Pro Se litigants representing themselves in Criminal cases are allowed to file their documents with the county clerk by hand. Also, in the case of an emergency, documents may also be filed by hand in the relevant court.

District Court case data can be found via Bexar District Clerk Criminal Records. The records are electronically filed in clusters using the first letter of the defendant’s last name. The Criminal record data is updated daily, but public Information on cases is often abridged. The record is distributed as a. CSV file (comma-separated values text file) which can be opened in Excel.

The Court Records SearchPortal is another online option that can be utilized in the search for criminal court case records. Accessing the Court records search requires the first and last name of the case party. There is also an advanced search option that requires more specific data such as; name, business name, SID case number and court to access the record.

To retrieve felony records or for a background check, copies of records for all felony matters should be requested from the Bexar County's Criminal Operations.

Bexar County's Criminal Operations provides felony background checks at a service cost of $5.00, which can be requested in person or by mail with payment enclosed. Additionally, self-service record searches can be conducted through Public Kiosks available on-site.

Also, copies of all felony records can be requested at a charge of $1.00 per page for plain and certified copies. Requests can be in person, by fax, or by mail, but copies are made available only upon receipt of payment. When sending a request by mail, acceptable forms of payment are cashier's checks and money orders.

How to Get Court Records Online for Free

Members of the public can get civil court records online for free via the Bexar County reports and record searches provided by the Bexar Court website. click on the “Online Services” option and click to view.

Individuals can get criminal court records for free via the Bexar County Odyssey Portal. Upon getting to the portal, scroll down and click on the “Search Hearings” tool. To conduct a search, it is required to fill the form provided requesting data such as:

  • A court location
  • Hearing types
  • Search types (case number, party name, business name, attorney name, attorney bar number, judicial officer, or courtroom)
  • Search by date range

Search results will reveal fundamental details like: a case number, defendant’s name, case type, hearing date/ time, hearing type, presiding judge, courtroom, and case category.

Considered open to citizens of the United States, court records are available through both traditional, government sources, and through third-party websites and organizations. In many cases, third-party websites make the search easier as they are not limited geographically or by technological limitations. They are considered a good place to start when looking for a specific record or multiple records. In order to gain access to these records, interested parties must typically provide:

  • The name of the person listed in the record. Juveniles are typically exempt from this search method.
  • The last known or assumed location of the person listed in the record. This includes cities, counties, and states.

While third-party sites offer such services, they are not government sponsored entities, and record availability may vary on these sites when compared to government sources.
