Abilene Crime Statistics

The Abilene Police Department is the city’s local law enforcement agency that gives reports about the rate of crime in Abilene City. In 2019, it reported that there were 3,549 crimes in the city, including 468 violent crimes and 3,081 property crimes. The violent crimes consist of nine murders, 80 rapes, 69 robberies, and 313 aggravated assaults. The property crimes include 567 burglaries, 2,313 larcenies, and 201 auto thefts. The 2019 crime statistics is a 15.4% drop in total crimes from the previous year within the city. A breakdown of this reveals a 27.1% and 15.4% drop in violent crime and property crime respectively. Abilene is part of the Jones County court system and the Taylor County court system. The structure of the court system is similar to that of other counties in the state. Jones County courts include one District Court, one Constitutional Court, one Justice Court, and four Municipal Courts. Taylor County courts include four District Courts, one Constitutional Court, two County Courts at Law, five Justice Courts, and three Municipal Courts.

Are Abilene Court Records Public?

The court records of Abilene are open to the public under Texas law. However, where an order restricting access to a specific record is provided by the court, the record shall be excluded from public disclosure.
