What are Mesquite Public Records?

The Texas Public Information Act (TPRA) describes Mesquite public records to include any physical or electronic document produced, preserved, distributed, or obtained in connection with an official public function. They include paper, video, electronic signal storage equipment, tape, mylar, and other mediums on which information may be recorded. Books, letters, documents, papers, e-mails, pictures, sound recordings, films, tapes, maps all fall within this category.

Mesquite Crime Statistics

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) provides reports on the statistics of crime within all cities and counties in Texas. In 2019, Mesquite reported a total number of 5,872 crimes, including 685 violent crimes and 5,187 property crimes. The violent crimes reported include 6 murders, 45 rapes, 244 robberies, and 390 aggravated assaults. The property crimes reported include 661 burglaries, 3,660 larcenies, and 876 auto thefts.

The 2019 crime statistics show a slight increase of crimes within the city more than the previous year. Between 2018 and 2019, there was a decline in four out of seven crimes. Robbery, aggravated assault, larceny, and auto thefts increased by 16%, 29%, 2%, and 6% respectively. At the same time, rape and burglary declined by 17% and 19% respectively. The same figures were reported for murder in both years.

Are Mesquite Criminal Records Public?

Under Texas law, Mesquite criminal records are considered open and public records. Interested persons can access using the Computerized Criminal History System of the Texas Department of Public Safety. It provides arrests, prosecution, disposition, and deferred adjudications of Class B misdemeanor or greater violations information. Access to other Mesquite criminal records is limited to the owner of the record through the personal review system.

How to Obtain Mesquite Police Reports and Arrest Records?

Mesquite arrest records and police reports are maintained and issued by the records section of the Mesquite Police Department. Interested persons can obtain Mesquite police reports either in person or through the mail. In-person requests can be made Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays) at the Mesquite Police Department located at:

How to Find Sex Offender Information in Mesquite?

The Mesquite Police Department generates and maintains a registry of sex offender information in Mesquite. The Department also publishes the residency restrictions for sex offenders. However, to access detailed sex offender information interested persons should visit the Texas Sex Offender Registry Website. The site contains information pertaining to the location, compliance status, and identifiers of sex offenders in Mesquite. This enables users to search for relevant sex offender information by offender name, address, and proximity to various locations within the city. Residents may also subscribe to the Department of Safety Notification System which provides sex-offender-related email alerts to its subscribers.

How to Find Mesquite Inmate Records?

The Mesquite Police Department handles queries pertaining to persons it jails and other general information relating to Mesquite City Jail. Interested persons can make inquiries by calling Department staff at (972) 285-6336. However, most information can be gotten from the Mesquite Jail FAQ Page.

Interested persons can view specific information about a Mesquite inmate on the Mesquite In-custody List which contains information about current detainees of the city jail like their names, charges, warrant number, booking date and time, and any applicable fines and bond conditions. The roster can be navigated by inmate name or booking date.

How Do I Visit an Inmate in Mesquite Jail?

Friends and family can visit inmates incarcerated in the Mesquite city jail on any day between the hours of 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm. The following rules apply to visitations at the Mesquite jail:

  • Visitation is limited to 15 minutes with a maximum of 2 people allowed per visitation period.
  • Visitors must be appropriately dressed, be at least 17 years of age, present a state-issued driver’s license or ID card or other government-issued ID with a photo, last name, first name, and date of birth
  • Visitors will be checked for outstanding warrants.
  • All visitors are subject to search prior to entering the visitation room.
