What are Missouri City Public Records?

According to the Texas Public Information Act, Missouri City public records are defined as any information written, produced, assembled, maintained, or collected by a government body in connection with the transaction of official business. This information may be available in a book, paper, document, letter, tape, microfilm, photograph, photostat, sound recording, text message, e-mail, map, drawing, printout, symbols, or any other material that can store information.

Nevertheless, not all documents generated or maintained by government bodies are considered public records. Such documents are exemptions and are restricted from the general public as permitted by the Texas Public Information Act. Most times, a government body may choose to redact the whole or part of the document as permitted by law. Some of the reasons a document may be exempted include:

  • Information revealing personal details such as social security numbers, financial history, and more.
  • The document contains details of an ongoing or pending investigation
  • Information about trade secrets obtained under attorney-client privileges.
  • Information that may jeopardize the safety of parties involved in a case.
  • Any information that is protected by state or federal laws

Public city records may also be accessible from third-party websites. Record seekers may either opt to use these non-governmental platforms to search for a specific record or multiple city records. However, users will need to provide enough information to assist with the search such as:

  • The address of the requestor
  • A case number or file number (if known)
  • The location of the document or person involved
  • The name of the subject involved in the record (not juvenile)
  • The last known or current address of the registrant

Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
