Bastrop County Crime Statistics

The Texas Department for Public Safety (DPS) maintains a repository of criminal records of all counties within the state’s jurisdiction. According to the 2018 crime statistics report compiled by the department, the total number of crimes reported in Bastrop County was 1,479, comprising of 233 violent crimes and 1,246 property crimes. While violent crimes reported included 5 murders, 55 rapes, 26 robberies, and 147 aggravated assaults, the property crimes reported included 314 burglaries, 831 larcenies, and 101 auto thefts.

The 2018 crime statistics revealed a decline in reported crimes in the county over a 5-year period. Between 2013 and 2018, there was a decline in 5 out of 7 crimes. Murder, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and auto theft rates decreased by 17%, 20%, 13%, 17%, and 19% respectively. While rape and robbery rates increased by 83% and 19% respectively.

How do I Get Bastrop County Criminal Records?

The Texas state DPS is tasked with managing the central system for criminal history checks and criminal records. Individuals interested in requesting their own criminal history record information (CHRI) may do so through the personal review system. To use the personal review system, a requester is required to first schedule a fingerprint scan at a DPS Fingerprint Applicant Services of Texas (FAST) online or by calling (888) 467-2080. The fingerprint scan fee is $10, while CHRI costs $15. Photo identification and fee payment will be required at the fingerprint appointment. The DPS uses scanned fingerprints to check CHRI. To check CHRI, a requester should submit the fingerprint hard card to the fingerprint vendor. This card should be submitted with the following information:

  • Sex
  • Race
  • Date of Birth

Third parties may request criminal history records of other individuals by using the Criminal History Search website. Offenders with Class B misdemeanors, Class C convictions, or higher can be searched on this website. To carry out a search, new users have to create an account and purchase credits for every search.
