Crime Numbers
The Texas Department for Public Safety (DPS) maintains a repository of major crimes reported in Bowie County. This data is compiled annually through law enforcement agencies in the county. Crime statistics for the year 2018 show 2,993 crimes recorded in the county. Violent crimes included 50 rapes, 202 aggravated assaults, 54 robberies, and 5 murders. Whereas, property crimes included 1944 larcenies, 526 burglaries, and 212 auto thefts.
An analysis of crime reports between 2014 and 2018 shows a decline in 5 out of 7 major crimes. Aggravated assault and robbery declined by -47.39% and -28.94% respectively. Although murder increased by 66.67%, larceny (-23.55%), burglary (-39.60%)), and auto theft (-28.37%) crime numbers decreased by considerable percentages.
Criminal Records
The DPS provides the Criminal History Name Search, a statewide repository where individuals can search and view criminal history records for a fee. Interested parties can search for offenders with Class B misdemeanors, Class C convictions, or higher. It requires new users to create an account before they can perform a search, usually by knowing the name and date of birth of the individual. It costs $3 per search plus a service fee of 2.25% per credit.
