Brazoria County Prison System

There are seven correctional facilities in Brazoria County, which consist of one county jail, one juvenile detention, and five state prisons. The Brazoria County Detention Center is operated and run by the Sheriff’s office, and the Juvenile Justice Department runs the Juvenile Detention. The Texas Public Information Act allows for the dissemination of inmate information to the general public. Inmate information are public records in the state and can be examined by members of the public. Information about an inmate that can be accessed by the public include:

Where to Find a Brazoria County Inmate Locator

The Jail Records search portal on the Sheriff’s website can be used to locate inmates incarcerated in Brazoria County. The inmate’s personal information (first name, last name, middle name, and date of birth) or booking number can be used to conduct a jail record search. The booking date and release date may be used to streamline the inmate search.

The inmate locator on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) website can be used to search for inmates on the state level. Only inmates incarcerated in a TDCJ facility can be found using the state’s inmate locator. A search may be performed using the inmate’s last name and at least the first initial of the first name, the TDCJ number, or the state identification number. Additional search criteria include the inmate’s gender and race.

Individuals may also use the inmate search tool of Federal Bureau of Prisons to search for federal inmates incarcerated in Brazoria County. The “Find By Number” and “Find By Name” search options can be used to locate an inmate. A “Find By Number” search is done by selecting an appropriate number type (BOP Register number, DCDC number, FBI number, or INS number) associated with the inmate and inputting the number. The “Find By Name” search criteria include the inmate’s first name, last name, middle name, race, sex, and gender.

How to Send Jail Mail in Brazoria County

Friends and family of an inmate incarcerated in Brazoria County can send personal mail to the inmate through the county Sheriff’s Office. All personal mail sent to an inmate must adhere to the Sheriff's Office inmate mail regulations in order to be delivered to the inmate. The mail rules include:

  • All envelopes must be addressed correctly
  • All mail must not exceed 8.5 inches in width x 11 inches in height.
  • A maximum of five pages per envelope.
  • All pages must be one-sided only
  • No more than one photograph per envelope

Any mail that fails to meet the mail requirements will not be delivered to the inmate and will be returned to the sender. All mail forwarded to the county’s detention center will neither be returned nor released and destroyed once it has been received and processed by the inmate.

A faster and more efficient way to send personal mail to an inmate in the county jail is to do so electronically. Electronic mail can be sent using the third-party vendor affiliated with the Sheriff’s Office. There is no limit to the amount of messages, photos, and documents that can be sent to an inmate. There are fees associated with using the electronic inmate messaging system. Firstly, the sender needs to set up an account with the third-party vendor and fund the account. Messages cost $0.25 per message and picture messages/documents cost $0.35 per picture.

Legal and medical mail can also be sent to an inmate in the county’s jail. A mail is considered legal mail if it is from state or federal officials and officers, the inmate’s attorney, or local courts. Legal mail should be forwarded to the county detention center's main address. Any mail sent to the address that does not qualify as legal mail will be returned to the sender.
