Crime Statistics

The Texas Department of Public Safety compiles and manages statistical crime data for cities and counties. According to data published in 2021, the county recorded 1,306 crimes. Larceny-theft was the most common crime with 742 reported incidents while assault was the most common violent crime. Compared to published data for 2016, total crimes increased by 0.9 percent. Burglary cases grew from 270 incidents to 271 incidents while the number of larceny cases increased by 5. Conversely incidents of robbery and assault dropped between both years.

The department maintains an online conviction database with different types of public data, including class B misdemeanors, convictions, prosecutions, and arrests. Members of the public can search for criminal records using an online platform.

Brazoria County Sex Offender Information

In addition, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), provides online access to a state-wide sex offender registry. Residents of the county can search for registrants by name. Searches can also be filtered to reveal offenders within a map address or offenders enrolled or working at institutes of higher education. The public registry is also available as a downloadable file for users who wish to run statistics or perform other operations.

How to Get Brazoria County Inmate Information

Information on persons currently held in state correctional inmate facilities can be obtained by contacting the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ). It provides an online search service that interested parties can use to locate inmates. Brazoria County Inmate Searches can be conducted using the subject's name, SID (State Identification) number, or TDCJ number.

Brazoria County Court Records

Brazoria County's court system consists of multiple district courts, constitutional county courts, county courts at law, justice courts, and municipal courts. Each of these courts has different jurisdictions over different cases. District courts have general jurisdiction over civil and criminal cases. Constitutional courts have jurisdiction over most probate cases. They also share jurisdiction with Justice Courts in civil cases where the amount in controversy is up to $10,000. Municipal courts have exclusive jurisdiction over ordinance violations. They also hear cases involving misdemeanors.

Interested parties can also conduct searches using the online courts record inquiry platform, which provides access to criminal records, civil and family records across all the major courts in the county. In addition, the Brazoria County district clerk provides an online record request form that members of the public can use to find felony records. To use this service, requesters must provide their contact information, social security number, date of birth, and the period range to be searched.

In addition to its district courts and justice courts, Brazoria County is home to multiple municipal courts which have exclusive jurisdiction over ordinance violations as well as cases involving misdemeanors. How to Get Divorce Records

Eligible parties can obtain copies of a divorce decree by contacting the Brazoria County district clerk at 111 E. Locust, Ste. 500, Angleton. The office processes same day requests for walk0in applications. Residents can also obtain copies via mail by sending a request to:

Walk-in or mail applications must include the case number as well as indicate the number of copies being requested. Requesters may also be required to provide a valid government-issued ID as well as their contact information.

Obtaining Divorce Verifications

The Texas Department of State Health Services Vital Statistics Unit maintains records of divorces in Brazoria County and other parts of the state. However, it only issues divorce verifications and not copies of the actual decree. To request divorce records, interested parties must send a completed application form to the:

How to Obtain Birth/Death Records

The Brazoria County clerk office issues copies of birth and death certificates for events that occurred in the county. To obtain a record, applicants must either be the named person on record, a child, sibling, grandparent, spouse or legal guardian. Requests must include a valid government or state-issued picture ID. County residents can also submit requests via mail. To obtain records by mail, requesters must provide a completed birth/death record application form. The office charges $23.00 for each certified copy of a birth record. Death records cost $21.00 for the first certified copy and $4.00 for each additional copy. Requesters must also provide a notarized proof of identification to establish their relationship.
