Denton County Arrest, Court, and Public Records

Arrest Records

The latest crime data for Denton County indicate that there were five murders, 95 rapes, 73 robberies, 176 assaults, 543 burglaries, 2,313 larcenies, 169 auto thefts, and one case of arson in 2016. Compared to the previous year, these figures showed that murder (150%), rape (5.5%), robbery (17.7%), assault (23.9%), burglary (34.4%), and arson (100%) rates increased. The county recorded lower incidences of larceny (9.3%) and auto theft (11%).

In accordance with the provisions of the Texas Public Information Act, Denton County allows all citizens access to arrest records and outstanding warrants. Anyone can also conduct a criminal history name search from the website of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Users must register before searching the database on the website.

Criminal Records

The Denton County Sheriff's Office maintains a list of all sex offenders living outside the various municipalities in the county. It makes this information available to the public on its website. The Sheriff's Office organizes the details of registered sex offenders by zip code. Sex offenders living within municipalities in Denton County have to register with the local police departments in their cities. Visit the county-wide sex offender webpage to find links to registered individuals residing in Carrollton, Denton, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Lake Dallas, Lewisville, and The Colony cities.

It is also possible to find registered sex offenders living in Denton County using the statewide registry. The Texas Department of Public Safety provides a searchable database of sex offenders on its website for the public. Enquirers can search by name and map address. Alternatively, they can choose from a list of institutes of higher education in the county to find registered sex offenders living around these locations.

Jail records for Denton County are available on the county's government website. To find inmates booked into the county's jail, use the search tool on the Denton County Records Inquiry page. The public can find individuals by searching by name, date of birth, and booking number. The county also allows the public to search for jail bonds records. Simply visit the Jail Bond Records webpage and search by defendant's name, jail bond company, bond status, and bond post date.

Court Records

Court records for Denton County are available on the Records Inquiry section of the county government's website. These include district court case records and calendar as well as justices of peace and county court calendars. The public can access criminal, civil, probate, and family case records for all county and justice of peace courts in the county. To access any of these, simply select a court location from the drop-down list on the Records Inquiry webpage or click one of the links on the page.

The public can also visit the offices of the county clerk and district clerk to view and request court records. Both offices are located on 1450 East McKinney Street, Denton, TX 76209. The district clerk keeps such documents related to felony charges as criminal court records while the court clerk provides court dockets for misdemeanor charges.

These offices open between Monday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The County Clerk also accepts mail requests for copies of birth, death, and marriage certificates. When requesting for a birth or death certificate, download and complete the birth/death certificate application form. It is also available in Spanish. For marriage certificate copies, complete the Marriage Record Copy Request Form and send it to the same address. The County Clerk charges $1 for non-certified copies of marriage records plus an additional $1 per page of record requested. The fees for certified copies of marriage records are $16 plus $1 per page. Include a cashier's check or money order for the fees in the mail request. The County Clerk charges $23 for each certified copy of a birth certificate. The first copy of a death certificate attracts a charge of $21. There is a $4 fee for each additional copy of the same death record. Accepted payment methods include cash, checks, and money order.
