Rule 12 of the Rules of Judicial Administration defines court records as documents, papers, letters, maps, books, tapes, photographs, films, recordings, or other materials made or maintained by or for a court. The Williamson County Clerk and District Clerk are the custodians of court records. These clerks keep court records per the Texas Rules of Court provisions. Court records help understand what transpired in a legal proceeding. It helps people know what happened in a case, how evidence was used, and why a particular decision was made. Hence, these records are deemed a part of Willamson County Public Records and are dispensed to interested persons upon request.
Are Court Records Public in Williamson County?
Rule 12 of the Texas Rules of Judicial Administration and the Texas Public Information Act support public dissemination of court records. Therefore, anyone can view or request copies of court records from any court in Willamson County. However, Texas law exempts certain court records or some information contained in them from public disclosure. Examples of court records not publicly accessible in Williamson County are:

How to Conduct a Williamson County Case Records Search
The Willamson County District Clerk allows members of the public to access case records via several methods. Individuals can find court records using any of the following designated methods:
- Online: Use the Public Access portal to conduct a case records search for free. The search criteria are by case, party/defendant, attorney, or date filed.
- Fax: Individuals can download and complete the Records Request Form and fax it to (512) 943-1222. Only non-certified copies of case records can be retrieved through this method.
- By email: Email requesters should send their requests to DCrequest@wilco.org, and copies of the desired record will be transmitted to them via email. Note that certified copies of case records cannot be emailed.
- By mail: Send a completed Records Request Form by US Mail to the Willamson County District Clerk. The form must be submitted alongside the necessary fees to the mailing address below:

Certified and non-certified copies on paper cost $1 per page. Non-certified electronic copies are $1 for up to 10 pages plus $0.10 for each additional page. Payment can be made by money order, cash, or credit card. The Willamson County District Clerk’s Office does not accept American Express or personal checks. Credit card charges are subject to a $2 convenience fee. Processing time for case records requests takes up to 3 days.
Williamson County Civil Court Case Records
A civil court case record is an official document that contains information regarding non-criminal lawsuits filed by individuals or corporations. A civil case deals with disputes between parties. The Willamson County Courts only handle civil cases when the matter in controversy is between $500 and $250,000. Civil case records can be retrieved online or in person during office hours. The Willamson County Courts allow people to access court information by looking them up themselves in the court file. They also provide a certified letter for $10, either by mail or in person.
Williamson County Criminal Court Case Records
A criminal record is an official document that covers criminal and traffic convictions. The Willamson County Courts handles Class A and B misdemeanor cases. Individuals can request criminal court case records online or in person at the Williamson County Clerk's Courts Division. The Division can also provide a certified letter for $10, either by mail or in person. In-person requesters should do well to visit the Division around office hours, which is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.

Willamson County Court has an online portal where individuals can get court records for free. Here is how to conduct a search:
- Go to the Willamson County Clerk's homepage
- Click on the Judicial Record link at the left navigation menu
- Select a location
- Select the “Criminal Case Records” or “Civil, Family, & Probate Case Records” link
- If the “Criminal Records” link was selected, conduct a search by Case, Defendant, Citation, Attroney, or Date Filed
- If the “Civil & Probate Case Records” link was selected, conduct a search by case, party, attorney, or Date Filed.
- Regardless of the case type, click the Search button to conduct the search.
