What are Georgetown Public Records?

Georgetown Crime Statistics

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) publishes nationwide crime statistics for all cities. According to 2019 figures released for the city of Georgetown, there were 81 violent crimes, including 25 rape incidents, 8 robberies, and 48 cases of aggravated assault. The FBI also published 103 burglaries, 586 larceny-thefts, and 41 motor vehicle thefts, totaling 730 property crimes. The 2019 report also showed 1 case of arson and no reported murder or nonnegligent manslaughter incident.

In 2018, the FBI's publication showed 81 violent crimes and 730 property crimes. With a total of 812 offenses, 2019's crime numbers is a slight reduction compared with the 811 reported in 2018.

Are Georgetown Criminal Records Public?

Not all Georgetown criminal records are considered public. All requesters may access arrest, prosecution, and disposition records of Class B misdemeanor offenses or greater. The Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) provides access to public criminal history information through the Computerized Criminal History System (CCH). Interested requestors may sign up by creating individual or company CCH accounts.

Search credits are required to use the CCH. Each name search uses one search credit, whether or not any records match the inputted query. A search credit costs a $3 fee, payable by check or credit card. Credit card payments require a convenience fee of 2.25%. A transaction fee of 25 cents is also applicable, regardless of the number of purchased credits. Note that search credits purchased via cards will be immediately available. How to Obtain Georgetown Police Reports and Arrest Records

The Georgetown Police Department (GPD) issues copies of Georgetown arrest records and police reports. The GPD's Records Division entertains requests on Mondays through Fridays, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. How Do I Visit an Inmate in Georgetown Jail?

Visits to the Williamson County Jail are restricted to persons on each inmate's visitation list. Except otherwise stated by a court, all inmates may complete an inmate visitation form with up to five names of prospective visitors. Inmates are not required to include their attorneys on the list. Visitors must arrive and check-in at the jail at least 15 minutes before the scheduled visitation. All persons must be at least 17 years old to visit unaccompanied. Each visitor over 18 years old must present a current and valid state-issued ID, such as a driver's license. Persons 15 or 16 years old may only visit in the company of adults. Younger persons must be accompanied by their parents or guardians.

Each inmate is entitled to one 20-minute visit per day and a maximum of two visits each week. Although the visitation schedule is subject to change, attorneys with bar cards, and clergy, may visit at any time and on any day. Special visits are also available to persons who need to travel more than two hours to visit the jail. Such persons must contact the jail at least seven days in advance.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office enforces a dress code for visitors. Persons that appear in revealing, see-through or obscene clothing will be denied entry.

The City of Georgetown has District, Constitutional County, Justice, Municipal, and County Courts. The District Court is the highest, with general jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters in the county.
